The XXV Congress of the Union of European Federalists will take place in Strasbourg from Friday 10 to Sunday 12 June 2016.  As usual, the Congress is open not only to delegates but also to any interested members and friends from all our sections. Whether you are a long-standing activist, a new member who has just joined, or a past activist looking for an occasion to become more involved again, we would be very glad to have you with us at the Congress.

The Congress will mark the 70th anniversary of the foundation of our organisation in 1946. Therefore, it will be the occasion to celebrate 70 years of our engagement for a united and federal Europe and to discuss ways and means to relaunch our commitment.

We will discuss policies and elaborate proposals for the many challenges Europe is facing today: the completion of the Monetary Union, European responses to the refugee and migration crises, the reform of Schengen and the need for a European internal security policy and the development of a European foreign and security policy. The Congress will be a key step in launching the next phase of our commitment to a federal Europe.

The Congress will open with a public session on Friday afternoon, with speeches by French and European personalities. It will continue on Saturday with discussions organised on political commissions and focused on the reform of the EU institutions, the future of the European Monetary Union, the EU global strategy and European solutions for migration and border management.

We are looking forward to this Congress as an occasion to mobilise all of our activists from across Europe.

The meeting folders and other documents for the Congress are now available on UEF website. Printed copies will be available in Strasbourg for all registered delegates and observers.

These are the documents now available for download:

The latest agenda for Congress in English and French

The Federal Committee Meeting Folder (for the short FC Meeting immediately preceding the Congress)

The latest version of the Congress Meeting Folder (including resolutions and submitted amendments)

Proxy Forms (for the Federal Committee Meeting and for the Congress).

Especially for the Congress, it is very important that those of you who have been nominated as delegates but are unable to participate, give your proxy to another delegate. This should ensure that the entire UEF membership is fairly represented at the Congress. The proxy form can be delivered at the Congress registration desk.

As usual, various positions will be elected at the Congress. Details about the candidates for these positions are available in the Congress Meeting Folder.

I would like to draw your attention to a recent development regarding the Election of the UEF President: the nomination of an additional candidate for the position.

You will find the respective candidate letters via the following link:

Mr. Elmar BROK, MEP (current President, re-nominated by the German, Italian and Austrian sections)

Mr. Enrique CALVET CHAMBON, MEP (nominated by the Spanish, Belgian and Hungarian sections)

Last but not least, please note that on Saturday afternoon the agenda includes a presentation by each member organisation on their status and activities. The President or Secretary-General or other representative of each member organisation will have ca. 5 minutes to speak. If you wish you use slides for this presentation, please send these in advance by emailor have them ready on a USB stick.

Should you have any further questions about the Congress, please do not hesitate to get in touch with the European Secretariat.
